Centella asiatica, commonly known as centella and gotu kola, is a small, herbaceous, annual plant of the family Mackinlayaceae or subfamily Mackinlayoideae of family Apiaceae, and is native to wetlands in Asia.

Centella grows in tropical swampy areas. The stems are slender, creeping stolons, green to reddish-green in color, connecting plants to each other.

The powder of Centella asiatica is mixed with other excipients in a high shear mixer and the wet mass is feeded into a single screw or a twin screw extruder, the wet extrudates are then feeded in wet condition into a spheronizer. The spheronization time varies per product but in approximately 5 minutes the extrudates are converted into spherical round spheres which are then further dried in a fluid bed dryer then further coated in a bottom spray fluid bed coater when needed. A vacuum tray dryer is also used when the product demands sensitive drying.
