Passiflora, known also as the passion flowers or passion vines, is a genus of about 500 species of flowering plants, the namesakes of the family Passifloraceae.
They are mostly vines, with some being shrubs, and a few species being herbaceous.
Most species are found in South America, eastern Asia, southern Asia, and New Guinea.

The powder of Passionflower is mixed with other excipients in a high shear mixer and the wet mass is fed into a single screw or a twin-screw extruder, the wet extrudates are then fed in wet condition into a spheronizer. The spheronization time varies per product but in approximately 5 minutes the extrudates are converted into spherical round spheres which are then further dried in a fluid bed dryer then further coated in a bottom spray fluid bed coater when needed. A vacuum tray dryer is also used when the product demands sensitive drying.
